MIAMI, United States. — The Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba published this Wednesday a Message to prepare for Christmasin which he called on all Cubans to dream of a country where they can “live with dignity.
Emigration, family separation and the lack of freedoms on the Island were some of the topics addressed by the island’s Catholics, who also greeted the 25th anniversary of the christmas celebration in the Caribbean country.
“This time it will be 25 years since the Cuban authorities decreed Christmas as a holiday, which allows people to share this holiday as a family and participate in the celebrations in their respective communities,” the text states.
The religious organization wanted to accompany with its words “the families that suffer from emigration.”
“How much we need to awaken joy and hope, in the midst of so much darkness and discouragement. The presence of Jesus in our midst is the source of a joy that nothing and no one can take away from us, we have placed our hope in Him and we know that we will not be disappointed”, the message highlights.
The Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba also asked for “our most needy brothers” and for “those who suffer from hunger, loneliness, lack of freedom and expect a gesture of clemency or mercy from us.”
“How much joy it would bring to their families and people in general to know that, this Christmas, a good number of those who are in prison are released and return to their homes to return to normal life and thus start the new year!” .
The message of the Catholic Church also called for a country where people can live decently and where there are no marginalized people.
“That this Christmas we once again dream of building a homeland of brothers, where everyone can live with dignity, where we listen to each other and dialogue to discern the future, where we fight for the good of all, especially those who have been marginalized for various reasons.” .
