MADRID, Spain.- The video game MLB The Show 23, which will be released on March 28, will include Cuban baseball legend Martín Dihigo among its characters.

In the “Storylines” modality, the video game will be a tribute to the Negro Leagues and some of its greatest players.

According to Explain the MLB website, more than a year and a half ago PlayStation contacted MLB authorities to discuss the implementation of this project, which required particular research and contextualization work.

In addition to Martín Dihigo, Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Buck O’Neil, Rube Foster, Hilton Smith, Hank Thompson and John Donaldson will appear in the game in this first season.

The video game will tell the story of each of these players through a video introduction in the form of a documentary, followed by the game that will reflect relevant moments in each player’s career.

“It is an honor to bring the Negro Leagues to MLB The Show 23! In association with [email protected] and president @nlbmprez. We invite you on a journey to celebrate the Negro Leagues and their stories of triumph over adversity in a new gaming experience!” said MLB The Show from Twitter.

Martín Dihigo, known as “El Immortal” and born in the Jesús María neighborhood, in the province of Matanzas, began playing baseball at the age of 13 in youth championships and at 17 he was already playing professional baseball, where he debuted as a infielder in the 1922-1923 season.

He entered the Negro Leagues in 1923, as a first baseman for the Cuban Stars. In his first season he was the home run leader. In 1926 and 1927 he hit for averages of 421 and 370 respectively.

He was the first Cuban included in the Hall of Fame of the Negro Leagues. He is also in the Baseball Hall of Fame for Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.
