The Cuban company of ballet Laura Alonso presented a version of the play “El Corsario” in the city of Zaragoza, as part of her current tour of Spain.
The work, adapted by the teacher Laura Alonsodirector of the company and daughter of the legendary Cuban dancer Alicia Alonso and the teacher and founder of the Cuban School of Ballet, Fernando Alonso, is inspired by the poem “The Corsair”, by Lord Byron, and by the homonymous opera Verdi, with music by Adolphe Adam.
The leading roles were played by the dancers Patricia Hernández and Elena Álvarez, in the role of Medora; Abraham Quiñones and Denzel Fernández, in Conrad’s; Joan Rodríguez, in Ali’s; and Rosa L. Pérez and Alejandra Rodríguez, as Gulnara, according to what was announced by Spanish newspaper The Herald.
The journey of the Cuban company has also included performances of the popular ballet “Nutcracker”, one of the best known in the classical repertoire, with music by the great Russian composer Tchaikovsky.
The Laura ALonso Ballet began its tour of Spain on December 9, where it has also performed in cities such as Alicante, Valencia and León.

She was a member of the National Ballet of Cuba for 25 years as a soloist and after her retirement she has dedicated herself to teaching and her work in front of her own company, as well as directing the ProDanza Center, guiding the promotion and study of ballet in Cuba.
