Havana Cuba. – Cuban-American Keyler Rafael Rodríguez Alvelo, imprisoned and sentenced to seven years in prison for the crime of “attack” during a visit to the island, denounced in a telephone conversation with CubaNet that the prison authorities refuse to grant him the pertinent “benefits”, despite having served more than half of his sentence.

To Rodríguez Alvelo the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) He violently arrested him in 2017, after an altercation. The young man was sentenced to seven years in prison, of which he has served five in the El Chungo prison camp, in the municipality of Bayamo, Granma.

“They don’t want to give me any kind of benefit; nor those that belong to me like all the inmates who are here. They do not give me an exit permit, they do not give me a transfer [para La Habana]. I haven’t seen my daughter for three years because she can’t come to this province to see me and they’ve been suffering like this for five years, ”denounces the young man from prison.

In 2017, Rodríguez Alvelo traveled to Havana on a flight from the United States, where he lived, to visit and spend a few days with his family. After his arrival, he says, he rented a tourist car in which he traveled with several relatives to the East of the country.

“Some policemen stopped me in the El Chapuzón river, in Granma, and since they were drunk they referred to me in a bad way,” the young man details.

After requesting all his documentation and that of the vehicle, Rodríguez Alvelo alleges that the officers violently arrested him only for asking them to treat him in a more polite manner.

“To tell him nothing more than the most correct thing would be to have said good afternoon, it seems that those words offended them a lot and, since they were drunk, for that simplicity, they accused me of the crime of attack. How is it possible that if I didn’t hit anyone they accuse me of an attack, if they were the ones who hit me?”, she wonders.

Similarly, the document describes that Rodríguez Alvelo began to offend police officers by telling them “that they were starving”, “that they were some without…”, “some sons of b…” and “some eat p…” .
