'Cubadebate' fires one of its journalists for criticizing baseball leaders

Journalist Boris Luis Cabrera Acosta’s questioning of the National Baseball Commission (CNB) for the organization of the controversial Elite League of Cuban Baseball has taken its toll: the official Cubadebate decided to end their employment relationship. “I will no longer collaborate, my contract there was closed”, posted the reporter on Facebook.

Although he did not detail the reasons, the communicator explained that “in the end it is a decision of the management of that site” and that “sterile defenses or promoting media shows” were not worth it.

The censorship against Cabrera Acosta and his colleagues Joel García, Norland Rosendo González and Jhonah Díaz González, all from official media, has been evident since were excluded from the press conference offered by the National Baseball Commission in which the president of the Teammate firm gave explanations personally –after flying from Italy– for the delay in the arrival of the uniforms that caused the postponement of the competition.

In the official media he wrote for 1,600 days about his passion, according to the journalist, with “own resources, and despite illnesses, family commitments”, and in his performance he also had to overcome “bad connections” and “blackouts “. “I managed to ensure that the texts were always there with the immediacy that readers deserve.”

Cabrera Acosta has space in Tribune of Havana, where, he assured, “he has always received great support”. However, reporter Ángela Julia Osendi Díaz observed: “I hope Grandstand don’t turn around with a file too”, recalling that on the Island “there is only one owner and what bothers the owner is foul to the tights.”

Another user, identified as Fleites Torres, commented that something similar was done to him in 1988 at the Coco radio station and he resigned: “The revolution or whatever it is is not above journalism, which is not understood without freedom. The processes, the regimes pass, true journalism is eternal”.

Cabrera Acosta’s departure from Cubadebate It occurs just when the departure from the Island of former baseball player Abel Vlego Montano was announced. The athlete, who along with 11 friends bought a boat to get to Florida, counted to Full Swing that he abandoned occurred on the Cojímar side at the beginning of October.

This group had a 26-hour journey and, according to the athlete, reached Cayos Marquesas, where dozens of rafters have landed this month. The Coast Guard picked them up and took them to Marathon, where they were held for two days.

This Havanan, who had outstanding performances in 9 National Series defending Metropolitans and Industrialists, explained that since he does not have permits, his stay is being paid for with the support of an uncle, who gives him a space in his apartment. “I’m not as comfortable as I’d like to be but at least I have a place to sleep”
