Cuba will participate with a delegation of 265 athletes in the V Games of the SUNRISEwhich will take place from April 21 to 29 in the states of La Guaira and Miranda, as well as in the city of Caracas, capital of Venezuela.
“Cuba will attend with 138 men and 127 women, 67 coaches and 19 referees,” confirmed José Antonio Miranda, high performance director of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) during a press conference reviewed through the sports portal Hit.

The manager pointed out that Cubans will compete in 24 disciplines with the aim of continuing their preparation for imminent competitions, such as the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador and the Pan American Games based in Santiago de Chile, both on this year’s calendar.
The island’s delegation will reach 409 members, as it will also include coaches, referees, delegates, and medical and paramedical personnel, the report added.
Miranda also addressed other issues, such as the transfer of the baseball contest from Caracas to La Guaira and the closure of some contests such as wushu and boxing, on April 27, and cycling mountain bike two days later.
According to reports, the Venezuelan capital will host 17 sports disciplines, while La Guaira and Miranda will host nine each.
So far, the organizers of the ALBA Games are expecting the arrival of around 3,500 athletes from 11 member nations of the integrating body, in addition to another group from Russia that have been invited for the occasion.
The contest, whose organization was previously alternated between Cuba (2005 and 2009) and Venezuela (2007 and 2011), resumes after 12 years of absence.
