Cuba is preparing with a view to holding a mega rueda de casino this Sunday, May 7, on the eve of National Son Day. Dancers from the island will go out to the main cities and universities of all the provinces as part of the initiatives to break next year the Guinness record for the largest rueda de casino, In power of Venezuela since December 2022.
According to a report of Prensa Latina, the action will take place simultaneously throughout the country as a proposal of the international project “Retomando el Son, Bailando Casino”, led by the musical composer, writer, producer, artistic director and cultural promoter, Luis Llamo Castillo.
The initiative, in coordination with the National Council of Houses of Culture of Cuba, will serve as preparation to develop in 2024 a casino wheel of more than 1,595 people, the Guinness brand that Venezuelans set just a few months ago in Caracas.
“It will be a great event accompanied by several cultural institutions and academies that are already preparing to carry out various actions that guarantee reaching 2024 with the greatest participation and organization to achieve the feat,” accurate the Cubarte portal in an information.
The site itself explained that the intention of this project is “to make visible and promote the movement that supports casino dancing in this country, the cradle of this popular genre, which aspires to become a cultural heritage.”
According to granma newspaper, cultural institutions and academies that have been rehearsing since April will participate in the activities this Sunday with the aim of achieving the largest possible number of people. To do this, they made a massive call for registration through the internet.
As reported to the state newspaper by the organizers of the international project “Retaking the Son, Dancing Casino”, Cuba intends to break two Guinness Records in 2024: to make the clave of son in five minutes with the largest number of people and that of the rueda de casino biggest in the world.
