The first tribute is scheduled at the José Martí international airport, from where the remains will be transferred along Rancho Boyeros Avenue to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

MIAMI.-This Thursday they will arrive in Cuba the mortal remains of the 32 Cuban soldiers who died during the US military operation in Venezuela that culminated in the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026. The information was shared by the official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso.

The first tribute is scheduled at the José Martí international airport, from where the remains will be transferred along Rancho Boyeros Avenue to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. Starting at 10:00 in the morning, the population will be allowed to go to the MINFAR headquarters to pay tribute, according to the authorities. On the 16th, local tributes are planned in the places of origin of each of the combatants, as well as municipal events throughout the country. That same January 16, at 4:00 in the afternoon, the remains will be officially buried.

On January 6, state media released for the first time the names and photographs of the 32 members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) who died in Venezuela, confirming the presence of Cuban soldiers in that country after years of officially denying that participation. The list includes high-ranking officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers of different ages who, according to the official version, were on missions at the request of Venezuelan counterpart bodies.

A day later, Cuban authorities informed the relatives of Interior Ministry captain Adriel Adrián Socarrás Tamayo, 32, that it was not possible to repatriate or deliver his remains at that time.

The notification was transmitted by military sources and Communist Party officials in the Yara municipality, Granma province, where part of the officer’s family resides. According to what a relative told Martí Newsthe arguments offered alluded to the war situation in Venezuelan territory and the operational limitations at airports.

The confirmation of these deaths highlights the deep participation of Havana in the security structures of the Caracas regime, a reality that had been repeatedly denied by the Cuban government since the beginning of the 2000s.
