The donation It was granted by the Chinese government in the context of President Miguel Díaz-Canel’s official visit to the Asian country in November 2022, the fourth stop on an international tour that also included Algeria, Russia and Turkey.
On that occasion, Díaz-Canel met with his counterpart Xi Jinping, a meeting in which the Chinese president described the bilateral ties as an exemplary case of solidarity and cooperation between socialist countries, adds the information.
On January 18, the agreement for the official delivery of the donation was signed by the Cuban ambassador to China, Carlos Pereira, and Tang Wenhong, vice president of the International Cooperation Agency for the development of that Asian country.
Shortly after the protocol act, Pereira stressed that the gesture “will also contribute to China’s strategic participation in our economic and social development plans and the construction of a community of shared destiny that we want to create for the benefit of our countries and peoples,” according to a report from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.
According to the Cuban authorities, this amount will be used for the execution of projects with a high social impact linked to prioritized sectors of the economy.
