Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Relations, thanked today the support of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
Rodríguez Parrilla expressed his gratitude to Caricom during a meeting held this Tuesday with Malachia Fontenelle, Ambassador of Saint Lucia, who is finishing her mission in Cuban territory.
From his account on the social network Twitter, the Cuban Foreign Minister offered details on the dialogue with the Santa Lucian diplomat, to whom he expressed his satisfaction for the good state of bilateral relations, as well as the will to continue expanding economic and commercial ties.
“I received the Ambassador of Santa Lucia, Malachia Fontenelle, who is ending her mission in #Cuba. We express satisfaction for the good state of bilateral relations and the willingness to continue expanding economic and commercial ties. I thanked CARICOM’s support in the fight against the blockade,” Rodríguez tweeted Grill.
Caricom, an international organization for the strengthening of relations in the Caribbean region, is made up of Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
This regional mechanism supports Cuba in denouncing the blockade imposed by Washington almost six decades ago, rejected by the international community on 29 occasions in the United Nations General Assembly.
Last June the General Assembly spoke out once again in an overwhelming way against the United States’ siege of this country, and demanded an end to such unilateral coercive measures.
The resolution rejecting the US blockade of Cuba this year obtained 184 votes in favor, two against (the United States and Israel) and three abstentions (Colombia, Brazil and Ukraine).
