The state-owned company Viajero, in charge of marketing tickets for the sea and land transport in Cubadenied the news about the alleged cancellation of interprovincial trips on the Island, disclosed on the networks and in unofficial media.

“We are pleased to inform you that so far our company HAS NOT PRONOUNCED regarding this issue because there is no cancellation,” said the entity belonging to the Cuban Ministry of Transportation, in a publication on its Facebook profile.

“The services offered by the transport companies are operating normally, as well as the commercialization of capacities to acquire these services”, adds the note, replicated by state media and that is accompanied in the post by the owner of an independent platform.

This headline, which the information from Viajero denies, assured that the alleged cancellation of interprovincial trips in the Caribbean country was due to fuel shortages.

Given the rumors and unofficial publications, the company asks its customers to stay informed through official sites and apologizes “for the confusion generated by these means.”

“If there is any modification or cancellation of the service, we will let you know in a timely manner as until now,” the note points out.

Cuba is going through a severe economic crisis from which transportation does not escape, which has limited activities in state transportation and has multiplied the prices of tickets in private vehicles.

In the case of buses and interprovicial passenger trains, these they returned to their activity in November 2021, thanks to the epidemiological improvement on the Island after months of suspensions due to COVID-19. However, the sector authorities recognized that transportation would restart “in a reduced way”, among other factors “due to problems such as the technical situation of the vehicle fleet and the fuel deficit.”

Since then, the reestablished interprovincial transport frequencies and routes have remained below those that worked before the pandemic.
