The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled today the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Spain. The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the ties with Spain are characterized by “the maintenance of historical, cultural and family ties, as well as a stable and constructive political dialogue”.
Bilateral diplomatic ties, which began on June 21, 1902, have for some time now been extended economically to sectors such as hotels, logistics, construction and food production.

During the confrontation with the pandemic, the Spanish government donated tons of medical supplies. The Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Spain, Javier González, said that this gesture represents “the permanent commitment to the present and future of the Cuban people in the face of the great challenges and difficulties it faces.”
The ties between Cuba and Spain were strengthened after the visit to Havana of President Pedro Sánchez (2018) and King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia (2019) for the 500th anniversary of the founding of Havana.
The MINREX highlights that for many years Spain has rejected the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, as well as the Helms Burton Act, which due to its extraterritorial scope also affects Spanish businessmen.
