The affected facility is the so-called 26 Zoo, located on the avenue of the same name, in the Cuban capital.
The information ensures that “the population will be kept informed of the evolution of this event” and warns that “in the event of any mortality of farmed birds or wild birds, the health authorities recommend immediately notifying the official veterinary service of the town.”
The so-called avian flu is a contagious viral infection that has no specific treatment and affects wild and domestic birds, with high mortality, says an agency report EFE.
Last December, the Cuban Health Center recommended “avoiding contact of wild birds with poultry farms, taking extreme biosecurity measures in poultry facilities, and prohibited the transfer of sick birds,” the news agency added.
The World Organization for Animal Health, in turn, asked to strengthen epidemiological surveillance to detect possible new outbreaks of bird flu in time, the Spanish media pointed out.
