Cuba reports 81 new cases of coronavirus

A total of 81 new cases of Covid-19 and one person who died of the disease were reported this Saturday by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

In its usual part, the Minsap indicated that the number of positive patients was confirmed after carrying out 2,375 samples for the study of the disease, with which 1,109,992 positives have already been confirmed out of a total of 14,079,511 samples carried out.

Of the 81 new cases, 55 were contacts of patients confirmed with Covid-19, 6 with a source of infection abroad and 20 without a specified source of infection: 44 were women and 37 men.

350 patients with the disease remain hospitalized. Of these, 348 presented a stable clinical evolution.

With the death of a Guantánamo patient yesterday, 8,530 deaths have already accumulated. On the day there were 61 discharges and two patients are in intensive care.

In recent weeks, public health authorities have reported an increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.

The province of Holguín, in eastern Cuba, is the one with the most patients this Saturday for a total of 25 cases, followed by Santiago de Cuba, with 8, and Cienfuegos and Granma with 7.

Cuba had not confirmed deaths from coronavirus for several weeks, due, among other factors, according to specialists, to the effectiveness of the vaccines produced in the country.
