The cuban foreign ministerBruno Rodríguez, lamented this Wednesday the death of two compatriots in the traffic accident that occurred on Friday in the north of Mexico. A total of four people lost their lives, according to local media.
The Cuban Consulate in Mexico confirmed the deaths and assured that it “provides attention to the relatives of the victims.”

“We convey heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of the victims,” Rodríguez wrote on Twitter, adding that “Cuba reiterates its commitment to safe migration.”
According to the The Coahuila Journalthe event occurred near the Zertuche ejido, at kilometer 14, where a Ford Explorer truck, with RLB 146 B license plates from the state of Nuevo León, left the road after a tire apparently burst, causing the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over repeatedly.
Due to this, four women were projected by not wearing seat belts. They all died. They were between 25 and 45 years old. At the scene, the rescuers treated a man, two women and a 10-year-old boy, who were transferred to hospitals in Saltillo. It turned out that they were irregular migrants and that they came from Ecuador.

It is not the first accident this year in which Cuban citizens die in Mexico trying to reach the United States. In March and May, the Cuban government confirmed the death of at least three compatriots in accidents of similar characteristics.
The economic crisis on the island, afflicted by shortages of basic products, daily blackouts, an inflationary spiral and growing dollarization, has triggered the migration of Cubans through different routes.
Between October 2021 and September 2022, a total of 224,607 Cubans have entered the United States irregularly, according to official U.S. figures cited by efe.

Last Tuesday, delegations of the Executives of both countries met in Havana, in the second meeting of this type since the arrival of Democrat Joe Biden to the White House, to address the immigration issue.
The Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, assured in a press conference this week that “it is important to have resumed the exercise of discussing, analyzing andvalue migration agreements” bilateral, which have an “important role” in ensuring that migration is “regular, orderly and safe”.
