Cuba registered this Sunday its representation of 58 athletes for the first edition of the Caribbean Games, based in Guadeloupe and scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 3 next.

“We made official the registration of the delegation that will represent us,” Inder’s general director of high performance, José Antonio Miranda, wrote on his Twitter profile.

According to the director, the Cubans will compete in six disciplines: athletics (19), 3×3 basketball (4), cycling (8), futsal (10), judo (6) and swimming (11).

“The main purpose is to give continuity to the evaluation of our sports reserve for the 2028 and 2032 cycles, and that of boys potentially eligible to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games,” said the manager quoted by the sports portal Hit.

“This is another scenario to promote the development of new generations of athletes, in order to allow them a correct transition to the next competitive level,” he added. The Cuban delegation -with an average age of 19 years- was flagged this Saturday in Havana.
