Cuba received new donations of food and other items this weekend as part of international aid for the numerous victims of the Hurricane Melissa.
Nearly 30 tons of food sent by China arrived at the Havana airport on the first of six scheduled flights, as part of a new batch of emergency humanitarian aid provided by the Chinese Government for those affected by the meteor.
Beijing’s ambassador in Havana, Huan Xi, said at the delivery ceremony that his country “will continue to provide aid, within the scope of its capabilities,” and that “with concrete actions we will continue to promote a community of shared future” between both nations.
Other donations from China by sea in the coming days with mattresses, lanterns, steel coils for tiles, photovoltaic systems and other supplies that will be unloaded in the port of Santiago de Cuba, according to the agency Latin Press (PL).
Last Monday, Beijing had already delivered my kits of photovoltaic panels, donated for the homes that were cut off in eastern Cuba.
From Iran and the United Nations
Also over the weekend, the Government of Iran sent a donation of food for the victims of Melissa.

In turn, the United Nations, through its different agencies, continued to send aid to the island.
The most recent was a shipment donated by the World Food Program (WFP) and the United Nations Population Fund (Unfpa), arriving last Saturday at the Antonio Maceo international airport in Santiago de Cuba.
