Havana/A new ship sent by the Government of Venezuela and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (Alba-TCP) arrived on Wednesday at the Guillermón Moncada port, in Santiago de Cuba, with a shipment of aid to support the recovery after the damage caused by the Hurricane Melissa. According to the Foreign Ministry reported In a statement, the donation includes several containers with materials and supplies intended for the reconstruction of road infrastructure in the eastern provinces affected by the cyclone, which hit the Island on October 29.
“This new arrival consolidates the alliance of solidarity between the Alba nations, reaffirming the commitment to regional cooperation,” indicates the official text, which appreciates the support of several countries in repairing the damages: “Thanks to the support of countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia, together with the solidarity contribution of Mexico, Cuba strengthens its response capacity to mitigate material damage and accelerate the rehabilitation of land communications in the east.”
The note recalls that on December 8, the ship arrived Manuel Gualalso sent by Venezuela and Alba, to the same Santiago port, with machinery and more than 7,110 tons of supplies destined for the population affected by Melissa.
Last Sunday, Alba celebrated the start of the ship’s operations Manuel Gual as part of the execution of its 2030 Strategic Agenda and considered it a “fundamental tool for cooperation and the promotion of fair trade.” Gathered at their XXV meeting (in virtual format), the member countries of the Alliance also agreed create an international mission of support to Cuba in its energy crisis.

The proposal was made by the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, who affirmed in his speech the need to combine “the united, popular, prolonged resistance of the peoples of Alba with the permanent offensive of building solid bases in a joint, common, cooperative, mutually beneficial economy.”
The plan already has a name, International Energy and Electricity Mission of Special Support for the People of Cuba, but if it has content, it is unknown, beyond being a declaration of intentions. “I have communicated to the delegations of our nine countries, a proposal that we have been working on to, in the spirit of the Miracle Mission, fellow President Díaz-Canel, create a special Alba energy and electricity mission,” said Maduro, to which Bruno Rodríguez responded that it constitutes a new demonstration of “the essence of the Alliance as a mechanism that puts solidarity and cooperation between brother peoples at the center of its work.”
The bloc, founded 21 years ago by the late leaders of Cuba, Fidel Castro, and Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, is made up of both nations as well as Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada and Saint Lucia.
