(EFE).- Cuba received this Monday at the Havana airport a donation of 3.4 tons of powdered milk from the US, with an approximate value of 15,800 dollars.
This donation will be allocated to oncology hospitals in Havana and Holguín and to the elderly, and will be distributed by the Cuban Council of Churches (CIC), according to the state agency Prensa Latina.
The shipment of powdered milk – a product in short supply on the Island – was sponsored by US associations and foundations and by Cubans living in the North American country.
Cuba has received several donations in recent months from Russia, the United States, Japan, Nicaragua and Vietnam, among other countries
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment thanked the gift and stressed that “with the support of solidarity groups and with its own efforts, Cuba will advance in economic development even under the persistence of the blockade” applied by the United States.
Cuba has received in recent months several donations from Russia, the United States, Japan, Nicaragua and Vietnam, among other countries, from both governments and private groups.
On March 29, the Island Government thanked the donation of 19 tons of powdered milk delivered by the UN agency for children, UNICEF.
Most of the contributions were medical supplies and basic food items, but in some cases even several dozen buses were delivered.
Last year, Cuba received 135 donations from 40 countries, mostly medical supplies and equipment for immunization and the fight against the pandemic, according to official data.
