Cuba receives a donation of medicine and food from Belarus

(EFE).- Cuba received this Friday a donation from Belarus consisting of medicines, powdered milk and canned meat that will help alleviate the serious economic crisis that the country is going through.

The official of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Yamila Fernández thanked the cargo upon receiving it in the Mariel Special Development Zone, near the capital, and ratified “the good state of relations between the two countries,” reported the state agency Prensa Latina .

In turn, the Deputy Minister of Emergencies of Belarus, Igor Bolotov, expressed his gratitude for being able to help Cuba.

Last year, the Island received 135 donations from 40 countries, mostly medical supplies and equipment for immunization and the fight against the pandemic.

The note added that the donation took place in the context of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

Cuba has received shipments of humanitarian aid in recent months from other countries such as Russia, China, Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and the United States.

Last year, the island received 135 donations from 40 countries, mostly medical supplies and equipment for immunization and the fight against the pandemic, but also shipments of basic foods such as rice, according to official data.

Cuba has been going through a serious crisis for months due to the combination of the covid-19 pandemic, the tightening of US sanctions and errors in national macroeconomic management.
