The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, proposed this Thursday the creation of an industrial park of the Eurasian Economic Union (UEE) in the special economic zone of Mariel.
The head of government considered this proposal a demonstration of the “joint effort” to create production chains that would strengthen interregional integration, says Efe.
During a meeting of the expanded intergovernmental council of the UEE in the Russian city of Sochi, Marrero also proposed holding such a council in Havana.
The Mariel special economic development zone, 45 kilometers from Havana, was created in 2015 and has an area of 465 square kilometers, including the port.
The Cuban authorities offer a special tax and customs regime to foreign businessmen in this area in order to stimulate investment and the location of productions in the national territory.
