A private truck for transporting passengers had an accident this Friday afternoon in the Cuban province of Camaguey. Four people were injured in the incident, according to official media.
The car accident It happened around 4:00 in the afternoon on the Central East Highway, in a place known as Aguacatal, near the town of Bidot, in the Camagüey municipality of Jimaguayú, when the vehicle overturned, as reported the local newspaper Ahead.
“Apparently the driver lost control of the vehicle, when he was making a trip from Holguín to Havana,” says the publication, which cites authorities from the Command Post of the Ministry of the Interior in the province.
However, the report explains that “experts and specialists from the National Revolutionary Police are investigating the causes of the event.”
The media also points out that “immediately the injured were transferred mainly in ambulances to the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital, where they receive care.” The office does not specify the number of people traveling in the truck or what happened to those who fortunately were not injured.
In recent months there has been a significant number of traffic accidents in Cuba, including one occurred in the Camagüey municipality of Jimaguayú which also left several injured. The incident took place at kilometer 596 of the Central Highway, in a place known as the Ignacio Curve, and it involved four vehicles: a private truck dedicated to transporting passengers, two other vehicles of that type belonging to the state, and a means of animal traction.
According to official data, car accidents reported in Cuba between January and May of this year leave an average of two deaths and 30 injuries per day. In the first five months of 2022, 27 daily accidents occurred, on average, and one death is reported for every 14 of these events, according to a report by the National Traffic Directorate.
The information underlines that the human factor determines 89% of these events and that the main causes were not attending to the control of the vehicle, violating the right of way, speeding, technical malfunctions and ingestion of alcoholic beverages.
