Cuba participates in preparations for the Ibero-American Summit

A Cuban delegation participates in the V Meeting of National Coordinators and Cooperation Managers of the Ibero-American Conference, which began this Wednesday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The representatives of the island in that meeting, prior to the XXVIII Iberoamerican Summit of Heads of State and Government that will be held this Friday and Saturday in the Dominican capital, are headed by the Director General of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), Rodolfo BenĂ­tez, according to a report from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

Also part of the delegation is Janet Fernández, Director of Trade Policy with Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment and Deputy Head of Cooperation.

According to the outlet, the Cubans plan to promote the efficient use of the resources available for South-South and Triangular cooperation, as a complement, not a substitute, for North-South cooperation.

The event will focus on finalizing the preparations for the Ibero-American Summit, which will be held under the motto “Together for a fair and sustainable Ibero-America”.

The main agreements that will be adopted at that meeting will be focused on strengthening inclusive cooperation and translating the political will of the member states into concrete initiatives that benefit their peoples, the publication specifies.

The Ibero-American Conference is made up of 22 Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Latin American and Iberian States. Cuba is a founding member since its establishment at the I Summit held in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1991.

Regarding the meeting of Ibero-American leaders, it transpired that this Wednesday the report of the Ibero-American Observatory on Climate Change and Sustainable Development of La Rábida Food Systems and Climate Change in Ibero-America will be presented.

The first day of the XVI Ibero-American Business Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, in which the report will be presented Economic Outlook for Latin America 2022.

According to the program of the Summit, reviewed by PL, the meeting of Ibero-American Foreign Ministers was set for Friday, which will leave the scene ready for the Ibero-American Summit to be inaugurated at night in the colonial fortress Ozama.

The plenary session will be held on Saturday and a lunch is scheduled that the host president, Luis Abinader, will offer his guests privately and without an agenda at the National Palace.

According to the organizers, the presence of fourteen presidents, two vice presidents, two prime ministers and 22 foreign ministers are expected, who will adopt important instruments aimed at guaranteeing the development of the region, PL refers.
