Cuba today notified 79 new cases of Covid-19, 59 autochthonous, and one death in the last 24 hours, with five provinces without contagion (Mayabeque, Cienfuegos, Granma, Santiago and Guantánamo).
In his usual weekly press conference, the head of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), Francisco Durán, specified that the country accumulates 964,176 diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 that causes Covid-19, since his arrival in March 2020.
Deaths – he added – rose to 8,315 in total, while 342 patients remain confirmed in health centers, 15 less than the day before, and with a stable clinical evolution 327, 95.6 percent.
As part of the epidemiological monitoring, 2,376 patients are admitted, 1,824 suspects and 210 are under surveillance, the doctor described, the most visible face in the confrontation of the pandemic in the nation.
During the last hours, 94 medical discharges were granted, 15 more than those diagnosed, while in this way 955 thousand 462 recovered patients were registered, 99.1 percent, Duran said.
Among the provinces, the highest numbers were provided by Havana with 13, Camaguey and Holguín with nine, Ciego de Ávila with seven and Isla de la Juventud with five cases, he said.
He also stressed that in the last week, the 50th, only one deceased was registered, a favorable indicator and which is influenced by the increase in vaccination from drugs produced by the country.
Likewise, in the seven days, ending on December 18, the island counted 67 average cases with Covid-19, against 77 in the previous ones, a decrease conditioned to the reduction of autochthonous positives, he pointed out.
The number of imported infected has been increasing from week 47, he warned and explained that in the latter with 10 cases per day, related to the increase in travelers and the modification of international protocols due to the surveillance of the Ómicron strain .
It indicated 119 imported cases in December, with a variation in the number of States that index in this behavior. The head of Epidemiology of the Minsap referred 54 pediatric cases in the week just concluded against 58 in the previous one, with an average of eight.
He urged to continue working in this age group, although he recalled that in 42 the number was 2,120 pediatric cases, another example of the control of the disease in Cuba.
