The Cuban entered the ring to extend his good streak, a record for these contests, but was clearly outclassed by a much more experienced and talented boxer, who deservedly received the unanimous vote of the judges.
From then on, the boys led by Rolando Acebal resumed their victorious path, led by the double Olympic champion Arlen López, who swept the Hungarian Palma Kovacs in a fight corresponding to the 90-kilogram division.
Meanwhile, the newcomer Jorge Cuéllar (71 kg) came back in the third round to take the vote of all the judges in his meeting with the Ecuadorian José Rodríguez, but the decision was reviewed and the panel ratified the victory of the Cuban, then with score of 5-2.
In the second session of the day, another trio of Cubans climbed into the ring and managed to secure a space on the quarterfinal card, set for this Wednesday.
The double Olympic champion from Pinar del Río Roniel Iglesias (67 kg) liquidated with a 5-0 the aspirations of the Ecuadorian Jhancarlo Mina, and Yosbany Veitía (54 kg) managed the long distance very well to leave the impetuous Turk Enver Muzaffer out of the way in a fight in which all the judges saw him win.
Sealing the number of candidates for medals was Yoenlis Hernández (75 kg), who went one step further in order to revalidate his crown with another unanimous vote over the Mongolian Otgonjargal Jarga.
In this way, those who now came out gracefully joined six other boxers who had ensured their presence in the medal waiting room the previous evening.
