MIAMI, United States. — The “romance” between Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and the Cuban regime continues, as was seen yesterday at a meeting of the Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Countries against Inflation (APALCI), held virtually.
“Cuba is ready to go live there,” AMLO said during his speech to the laughter of Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, who also spoke at the forum.
In addition to Díaz-Canel, among those invited to the virtual meeting chaired by AMLO were the presidents of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Honduras, Venezuela, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Bolivia, Belize and Colombia, countries that are also part of APALCI .
The call for a meeting is part of a supposed effort by the rulers of the region to alleviate the economy and stop inflation throughout Latin America.
As part of the virtual forum, AMLO invited the leaders of the region to attend a summit in Cancun on May 6 and 7. The goal, he asserted, is for each participating country to invite importing and exporting businessmen.
“We do like an exhibition, like a fair so that trade, food and product agreements are carried out,” said the Mexican president, who did not rule out the possibility that representatives of more countries would attend.
“Of course we have to invite other governments, already by then. Now we wanted to do it like this to reach an agreement and so that this can start, to start, but by then we can invite, even CELAC members who are already with us, all those who want to participate, that would be for the face-to-face and we I would be very happy to receive them, “said AMLO.
The president of Mexico, a confessed admirer of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, has become an unconditional ally of Castroism in the region. AMLO has not only defended the Cuban regime in different international forums, but has also blamed the embargo for the deficiencies and difficulties that Cubans suffer.
