The fair, which took place in Havana between Monday and Thursday of this week, brought together 64 foreign companies from 19 countries together with more than 60 local entities and took place within the framework of the Health Tourism Fair and the IV International Convention Cuba-Health 2022.
44 high-level delegations participated in the Convention, 15 of them headed by ministers. 31 scientific events were held and more than 300 presentations, panels and round tables were held, as well as more than 65 bilateral meetings of the MINSAP leadership with members of official delegations where eight official documents were signed, according to the minister of the branch during the closing ceremony.
Meanwhile, the Health Tourism Fair, with the participation of 60 companies from some 28 nations, seeks to promote the idea of Cuba as a benchmark in so-called health tourism.
For several months, the country has been seeking the renewal of tourism, and, in particular, wants to give a boost to specialized tourism, in a post-pandemic scenario, as MINSAP authorities recently explained.
Tourism, seriously affected by the two years of restrictions imposed by covid-19, represents the second largest item of gross domestic product (GDP) and the second largest source of foreign currency in Cuba, behind the export of professional services, mainly of the health sector.
Cuba and the UN Population Fund agree on health collaboration
The Cuban government has set out the goal of receiving 2.5 million travelers this year, far from the up to five million who visited the island before the pandemic.
Between January and last August, Cuba received 1,396,921 international travelers in the first eight months of 2022, more than double the 573,944 that arrived in the entire previous year, according to official data.
