The U-19 male team in Cuba suffered its fourth consecutive defeat by losing 2-3 against Colombia in the G Group of the World Volleyball Championship in Taskent, Uzbekistan, being out of the final phase.
Cited by the Cuban News Agencythe International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) said that in the match played on Monday, Cuba lost the first two sets (24-26, 18-25), but reacted in the third and fourth (25-16, 25-17), showing strength in the attack with 65 points against the 52 of Colombia.
However, Cubans gave in the fifth set (14-16), affected by a less effective block (9 against 20).
Colombia capitalized its defense on the network, led by Maicol Issac Ortiz, who scored 27 points, including 6 blockages. By Cuba, Alessandro González stood out with 19 points, followed by Andy Lázaro Marrero (17) and Samuel Lázaro Rodríguez (14).
Despite overcoming their rivals in serves (4-3) and making fewer mistakes (25-28), the team could not keep the rhythm on the decisive set.
With this defeat, Cuba remains in the last place of group D with zero victories and a point, after falling before South Korea (0-3), United States (1-3) and Finland (0-3).
The group is leaded by Finland (4 victories, 11 points), followed by South Korea (3-10), Brazil (2-6), United States (2-5) and Colombia (1-3). Cuba will close its participation in the group stage on Tuesday against Brazil, without options to advance to the round of 16, scheduled from July 30.
The lack of consistency in key moments and the weaknesses in the blockade have limited the team, which will now seek to say goodbye with a better performance.
