MIAMI, United States. — Agricultores, the Cuban team participating in the 2023 Caribbean Series, lost for the fifth time in a row in that baseball contest, which takes place in Venezuela.
Those led by Carlos Martí fell on this occasion against the Indios de Mayagüez, representative of Puerto Rico, with a score of four runs to three.
Unlike previous clashes, this time it was the Cubans who struck first, scoring three runs in the second inning with RBI hits by Carlos Benítez and Yordanys Alarcón and a sacrifice fly by Alexquemer Sánchez.
The Cubans kept the Indios de Mayagüez scoreless until the fifth inning. In that inning, the Puerto Ricans scored two on a triple by right fielder Roberto Enríquez and an unstoppable hit to Bryan Torres’ central defender.
The clash remained three for two in favor of Agricultores until the bottom of the ninth. Source then when the Puerto Ricans took advantage of an error by the waiter Benítez —which would have meant the last out of the game— to tie the game at three. Immediately afterwards, Emmanuel Rivera hit a golden hit that left Cuba on the field.
For the nationals, starter César García, the main figure of eastern pitching, stood out, who managed to keep the Puerto Rican batters at bay for several innings.
Now, the Cuban team presents a balance of one win and five losses and has seen the slim chances it had of advancing to the semifinals of the Caribbean Series almost completely vanish.
The only victory for Farmers was three runs for one and in extra inning against the WildCats KJ74, from Curaçao.
Yesterday the Cubans had lost to the Monteria Cowboysfrom Colombia, with score five by four.
The final match of the qualifying stage for the Farmers will be against the Panamanian team of the Federales de Chiriquí.
