Cuba: Explosion at Hotel Saratoga leaves eight dead so far

A strong explosion of unknown origin was recorded this Friday morning at the Saratoga Hotel. There is talk that the complex was receiving gas supplies at its facilities when the incident occurred.

The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel, went to the scene of the incident and to the Hermanos Ameijera hospital, where the victims of the incident were transferred to accompany those affected, according to Radio 1000.

The presidency, through its Twitter account, reported that there are already eight deaths, and that 13 are reported missing, in addition, thirty people have been hospitalized.

Rescue efforts continue in the area as it is believed that there are still people trapped in the rubble of the building.

The place was preparing for its reopening, which was scheduled for next May 10, after two years of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
