The output of the National Electronergetic System (SEN) of the Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) Antonio Guiteras Due to a breakdown, this Wednesday led to the deficit of generation in Cuba up to a maximum of 376 megawatts (Mw) during peak demand hours, the highest of the most recent weeks.
CTE Guiteras, located in Matanzas, stopped its operations shortly after 4:00 pm due to a failure in the turbine condenser, according to the Electrical Union (Une)a situation that coincided with the scheduled maintenance of Unit One of the CTE Felton, in Holguín, another of which contributes more than 200 Mw to the SEN.
According to Une’s projections, Guiteras would be without generating electricity for approximately 36 hours, so the effects on the supply and possible blackouts will extend to the hours of maximum demand this Thursday.
In its most recent part, Une estimated that for this Thursday the affectation would be in the order of 285 Mw at peak hours, despite the incorporation into the SEN of several mobile generation units and engines and other diesel engines in the generation distributed.
In addition to Guiteras, units 5, 6 and 7 of the CTE Mariel, unit 4 of the CTE Nuevitas, unit 2 of the CTE Felton and unit 5 of the CTE Renté are out of service due to breakdown.
In turn, unit two of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit one of the CTE Felton and units 4 and 6 of the CTE Renté are disconnected from the system for maintenance.
In the case of the Felton block, it is in its fourth day of scheduled maintenance, after being maintained for 52 days contributing more than 200 Mw to the SEN. according to one note posted by official website cubadebatethe reconditioning designed to conclude in 20 days comprises more than 200 actions.
According to the outlet, the engineer Euclides Rodríguez Mejías pointed out that at the end of the work the block must recover its maximum generation capacity, which is 260 Mw.
