Cuba exceeds 200 qualifiers for Santo Domingo 2026

Cuba closed the year 2025 with a total of 226 athletes classified for the Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026, a figure that should increase in the coming months.

José Antonio Miranda Carrera, general director of high performance at Inder, explained that this is the amount that the event’s organizing committee has validated so far, according to a note published by the sports portal Hit.

Of the total tickets, 118 correspond to men and 108 to women who together will compete in 17 of the sports included in the official calendar of the contest.

In the current composition of the delegation, collective disciplines such as field hockey (32), baseball (24) and volleyball (24) stand out, he added.

Other tickets secured during the past year correspond to shooting sports (20), fencing (18), wrestling (17), softball (16), canoeing (12), weightlifting (12) and rowing (12).

Cuba will be with a full team at the Santo Domingo 2026 weightlifting

The remaining places were obtained in diving (8), archery (8), rhythmic gymnastics (7), artistic gymnastics (6), cycling (4), trampoline gymnastics (4) and sailing (2).

Miranda Carrera pointed out that the purpose of the Antillean delegation will be to be included among the three best nations in the games, in accordance with the number of prizes won.

In that sense, he recognized that it is a “demanding challenge”, taking into account the rivalry with nations “better equipped economically and logistically.”

Among them, he mentioned Mexico and Colombia as the favorites to compete for the forefront in the medal table, given the level that allowed them to occupy the first positions, in that order, at the close of the last edition held four years ago in San Salvador.

The manager also referred to the potential of the Dominican Republic, which as host country should increase the medal harvest compared to previous versions.

Where was the Cuban loot lost in the Central American and Caribbean Games?

The process of granting places will continue during the coming months, to complete the formation of the Cuban delegation that will participate in the third edition of the Central Caribbean event organized on Dominican soil, and which will complete its first century of existence.

The media recalls that on that occasion they had actions in 356 of the 447 tests called, with a performance that allowed us to add 74 gold medals59 silver and 63 bronze.

With that performance, Cuba placed third in the standings, behind Mexico (145-108-100) and Colombia (87-92-65).
