He cuban government denied versions spread on social networks about an alleged increase in the cost of passport for Cubans residing outside the country and assured that consular fees remain unchanged.
The clarification was issued this Sunday by Ana Teresita González, general director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Living Abroad, who categorically denied the information that circulated on digital platforms.
“FALSE. The information circulating about an increase in the price of the Cuban passport for residents abroad IS NOT TRUE,” the official wrote on her official account on the social network X.

González specified that there is no approved provision that modifies the current costs of this procedure and called on citizens to inform themselves only through official channels.
In his message, he stressed the need to “consult and share only information from official channels to avoid misinformation.”
Passport and its high costs, the debate
In 2023, Cuba adopted measures related to the issuance of passports, including increasing its valid for up to ten years in the case of adults, and six for children.
The need for current passports to be extended every two years, one of the steps most requested by residents abroad, was also eliminated.
In February 2024, the Minrex reported that more than 120 thousand Cubans residing abroad had requested the creation of a new passport since the new regulations were implemented.
However, many emigrants continue to question the cost of the document – set at 180 dollars or euros for those over 16 years of age and 140 dollars or euros for minors – and the lengthy process for requesting and obtaining it.
More denials from the Government
The denial about the cost of the passport occurs just a few hours after the Presidency of Cuba information spread on social networks about a alleged suspension starting this Monday of activities that “are not considered a national priority”.
In a brief publication on their networks, the island’s top leadership assured that the note attributed to it “is not true” and called on the population to “continue to inform themselves through official channels.”

The denied communication assured that from this Monday “state entities and companies will operate only with essential personnel to guarantee essential services and the continuity of strategic activities.”
Also, that classes were suspended “at all educational levels until further notice.”
Written in a tone that simulates official notes, the alleged information from the Presidency stated that these measures were adopted “in the face of the escalation of hostile actions by the United States government” and urged Cubans to “maintain calm and unity.”
