The day before, the Havana Foreign Ministry confirmed that it is closely monitoring the arrival of citizens from the island to Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary from the country in Eastern Europe, with whom it maintains communication.
The general director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad, Ernesto Soberón, assured through his Twitter account that the diplomatic missions will provide information and consular attention to those who require it.
Similarly, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 250 nationals returned from Russia on flights intended to return tourists from that country who were on the island.
“The Cuban consulate in Russia remains in contact with our nationals in that country, in order to provide the necessary consular assistance and support the efforts for their return to Cuba,” Soberón explained.
The diplomatic mission of the Eurasian country highlighted the efforts to coordinate alternative routes for return, after the cancellation of regular flights to the Antillean nation due to the closure of airspace to Russian airlines by members of the European Union, Canada and United States.
During the week, the Foreign Ministry ratified Cuba’s commitment to the UN Charter and International Law, regarding the vote in the United Nations on a resolution that condemns the military operation in Ukraine that began on February 24.
The largest of the Antilles abstained during the vote, reaffirmed the defense of peace in all circumstances and its unambiguous opposition to the use or threat of use of force against any State.
In another order, this March 3 it transpired that the US embassy in Havana will begin the limited resumption of some visa services, as part of a gradual expansion of the activities of the diplomatic mission.
Without announcing a specific date for his return to office, Chargé d’Affaires Timothy Zúñiga-Brown clarified that the consulate will only schedule appointments for those who have submitted their complete documentation.
The official notification came after almost five years in which the alleged health incidents recorded by US diplomats in this capital served as a pretext to reduce their staff here, as well as to suspend the family reunification program and the granting of visas.
Although science did not find a cause, weapon or culprit for the event, and reports revealed government mismanagement, Washington forced Cubans to go to third countries for their procedures, which increased costs and without certainty of approval, and Guyana is still the main place of processing for applicants.
