Havana/The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, described this Saturday as “unacceptable” that the United States has not summoned to process the participation of the national team in the VI World Baseball Classic that will be held in Puerto Rico in March next year.
“Ee uu punishes baseball. They have not approved the participation of Cuba in the VI World Classic, while the rest of the teams delivered payrolls. Unacceptable!” Diaz-Canel said on their social networks.
He added in his message that it was “a political exclusion that violates sporting spirit,” while claiming “equal conditions.”
The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation disclosed a protest note
For his part, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, said that “it is part of the current American aggressive policy against the Cuban people and tries to stop the development of our sport and participation of the team.”
The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation said Friday that the United States has applied a “discriminatory policy” for not having summoned to process the presence of its players in the VI Classic World.
A protest note released by the sports institution denounced that the organizers said that “they do not have the approval of the United States government that allows the participation of Cuba”, although it delivered in advance the request to form their preliminary payroll of 50 players.
The Federation said that Cuba has been “a victim of an unfair, unequal and politically motivated treatment, which is incompatible with the principles of respect, equity and transparency that any international competition must govern.”
