Cuba: creative resistance or recycled ideology

Havana Cuba. — The problem that real socialism had was that it could not be reinvented. So boring was his speech, with his caste of bureaucrats and mannered officials and repeaters of slogans, that the fall of the Berlin Wall happened from one day to the next, and after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the Communist Party, with 25 million of militants, did not know what to do when it was outlawed.

The Cuban regime did not believe one iota of Soviet history. For this reason, it was quickly recycled into 21st century socialism, sustained with the petrodollars of a Venezuelan military megalomaniac who is not worth remembering.

Today, Cuba is in crisis and hundreds of thousands of Cubans are fleeing the island jail, just like the East Germans and Poles did in the 1980s. And the regime has to reinvent itself to survive the current situation.

the septuagenarian Abel Prietoformer Minister of Culture and current director of that “residence” of the Ministry of the Interior that is the Casa de las Américas, is the auditor of a series of nonsense about cultural colonialism and other viands.

Abel Prieto is not alone in these trajines. He is accompanied by Enrique Ubieta, Yusuam Palacios and others who, through the media, bombard Cubans, achieving with their presence substantial savings in electricity with so many televisions turned off.

This media bombardment is part of the strategy to dig and remove from where there is no longer. For that they have events like the Conference for the balance of the world, Pedagogy 2023, or the next International Book Fair.

Pedro “Rosca Izquierda”, who worked for 40 years in the Ciénaga railway workshops as an engine mechanic, lapidarily said: “Poor Martí, so used by the government and so far from the Cubans.”

But as Marta Barrera says, from La Curia, in Palma Soriano, every time she reads something by comrade Abel Prieto: “I feel a bad cough from the dog.” The now retired from the library (Elvira) Cape, from Santiago de Cuba, says it with a low voice, not out of fear, but out of sadness.

According to the former minister, “at present there is a disturbing growth in the production of patterns that indicate the presence of cultural colonization. And when ignorance and colonization come together, they bring dire circumstances, the same or similar to fascism.

Abel Prieto recently announced that “we are working on a program to sow ideas and sow consciences, to develop critical thinking and cultural resistance.”

Are Abelito and the other leaders of the creative resistance in the Communist Party in their right minds? Haven’t you heard that hundreds of thousands of Cubans are fleeing the country right now and that thousands more are preparing to flee? Do they know that a leader without followers is a guy who is out for a walk in the Prado?

if in the journey to the seedthe novelist Alejo Carpentier describes the reversal in time to find the essences of their culture, what the current Castroite ideologues, undoubtedly marked by the Pachamama, propose to us is the return to a previous stage.

Where should we go back to? To the UMAP and the repression against homosexuals and the religious, to the Harvest of 10 Millions and the consented misery, or to the Mariel crisis with its acts of repudiation? Please… Let’s hope not.
