Cuba confirms its first case of monkeypox

(EFE).- The Cuban Ministry of Public Health confirmed this Saturday the first case of monkeypox in an Italian tourist.

The man is “in critical condition, in danger of his life,” the Ministry of Health said in a press release broadcast on state television.

“Possible associated causes that may have conditioned its severity are being studied,” added the health authorities.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, the citizen presented general symptoms three days ago and “during the first medical care provided, they worsened.”

The information added that in the physical examination they identified skin lesions confirmed as monkeypox through a PCR carried out at the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine.

“The epidemiological investigation is deepened and focus control actions are carried out, as provided in the approved protocol to deal with this disease in the country,” according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Also known as monkeypox, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a health emergency due to the number of countries that have contagion of the disease.

The WHO points out that the symptoms of monkey pox They may include fever, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, muscle fatigue, and rashes on the face, hands, feet, eyes, or genitals.

The disease is spread through direct contact with people who have symptoms.
