Cuba applies new measures for epidemiological surveillance

Cuba’s top leadership today approved new measures to reinforce border surveillance and increase active investigation in the face of the increase in positive cases of Covid-19 in the country.

According to a report from the national newscast, the actions also seek to increase epidemiological surveillance in laboratories and health institutions.

The Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, reported that at the end of last week the diagnosis of confirmed cases increased by 34.8 percent, with the highest incidence in Havana.

Faced with this situation, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, urged to reinforce health protocols in all territories.

At another time, the experts agreed on the need to increase hygienic-sanitary measures and investigations in primary health care to avoid an increase in cases.

According to the report, the specialists praised the results of the booster doses that are applied on the island with their own vaccines and released the strategy that is followed in order to guarantee the necessary drugs to treat patients with this coronavirus.

Cuba reported 145 new cases of Covid-19 today and no deaths as a result of that disease, while 623 patients are in hospitals.

So far, the country has identified 44 people with the Omicron variant, rated by the WHO of concern.
