Until May 2023, the Cuban government plans to register daily blackouts of three hours, this as an alternative to stop the blackouts in the summer months on the island.
During these three-hour blackouts, according to the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, a series of maintenance will be carried out on the thermoelectric plants, which were previously scheduled.
The minister explained that one of the largest generators on the island, the Antonio Guiteras plant, will undergo maintenance during the second half of this year. The plant is currently out of action. He stressed that maintenance will require at least 40 million dollars for spare parts.
Last year almost 40% of the Cuban population faced daily blackouts of up to 12 hours.
