Havana/A delegation from the Government of the Spanish Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and authorities of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba evaluated aspects of the bilateral cooperation they maintain, official media reported Friday.
The exchange took place during a meeting between the delegation headed by the Vice Minister of External Action of the Canarian Government, José Luis Perestlo Rodríguez, and the head of Health of Cuba, José Ángel Portal Miranda, who reported it in the social network X.
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, highlighted the “narrow link and the influence” throughout history between that Spanish region and Cuba, as well as their commitment to the Canaries and their descendants in the Caribbean country.

They also confirm that 80% of the population of the Cabaiguán municipality, of the central province of Sancti Spíritus, are descendants of Canarian emigrants who promoted the development of tobacco cultivation and the sugar industry.
