Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held a meeting this Tuesday with Philip Davis, Prime Minister of Bahamas. The visitor and his entourage were received at the Palace of the Revolution.
Regarding the visit, which began on Monday, Díaz-Canel affirmed that it was seen as “a relaunch of our relations, as a moment in which we can strengthen, expand, narrow bilateral relations on the foundational bases they had,” according to a report from the official journal Granma.

Shortly before, the visitor met the Prime Minister of the Island, who last August visited Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, to participate in the First Regional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
He also held meetings with José Angel Portal Miranda, head of Health, to assess the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the sector, according to the Minsap website.
Since January of this year, there has been a cooperation agreement between the two countries for the emergency response to COVID-19. Since then, a Cuban brigade of the Henry Reeve Contingent has been working in Bahamian territory.
Shortly after his arrival, Davis paid tribute to José Martí, in front of the equestrian statue of Parque 13 de Marzo, in Old Havana.
Philip Davis also serves as Finance Minister for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and prior to his appointment as Prime Minister in 2021, he held positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Urban Development, according to the Minrex website.
Cuba and the Bahamas have maintained diplomatic relations since 1974 and there is a willingness to maintain those ties, said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
