The governments of Cuba and Russia signed this Thursday in Havana a memorandum of understanding for bilateral investment initiatives, which includes business projects agreed between both countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas, signed the document together with the adviser to the Russian Presidency for economic affairs, Maksim S. Oreshkin.
In this way, Oreshkin concluded a work visit to the island at the head of a delegation of civil servants and businessmen, during which he met with President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

After the signing, both parties highlighted the meetings held in the last three days between managers and businessmen of the two nations, and advocated compliance with what was agreed in order to strengthen economic ties, as reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
Cabrisas reiterated that there is the political will of both governments to “advance rapidly” in the economic-commercial sector, something confirmed in the meeting between Díaz-Canel and Oreshkin.
Then, Cuban President Díaz-Canel considered the visit of the Russian delegation to the island to be “very significant” and stressed that it gives continuity to the high-level exchanges maintained between the two countries in recent months.
In the dialogues between the Russian adviser and the island’s authorities, the participation of Russian investors in Cuba was discussed, in sectors such as energy, tourism, food production, civil aviation infrastructure, the sugar agro-industry, and mining. , says the outlet, which cites sources from the Ministry of Foreign Relations (Minrex).
Cuba and Russia have boosted their bilateral relationship in recent years. Currently the Eurasian nation is one of Cuba’s top ten trading partners, and both governments define their association as “strategic.”
In recent months, the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Pátrushev, the president of the Cuba-Russia Business Council, Titov Boris Yuryevich, and the CEO of the state oil giant Rosneft, Igor Sechin.
In addition, Foreign Minister Serguey Lavrov and the President of the Duma, Viacheslav Volodin, recently included Cuba in their tour of various Latin American nations.
