This was the main conclusion of the “fraternal meeting” held in Havana by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations of Cuba, Marcelino Medina, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Titov, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reported.

“The excellent state of bilateral relations was confirmed and issues of interest on the international and regional agenda were reviewed,” according to the report.
With the signing of new economic cooperation agreements, Havana and Moscow have in recent years boosted their relations to reestablish the close cooperation they maintained before the disappearance of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Russia is one of Cuba’s top ten trading partners, and both define their partnership as “strategic.”
In 2014, Moscow canceled 90% of the debt contracted by the Island and valued at 35.3 billion dollars.
