Hossein Amir Abdollahian described relations with Cuba as “firm, consistent and historic” and assured that there is a “great variety of issues” on the bilateral agenda.
The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated this Saturday his intention to ratify ties with Iran when he received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Persian country, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in Havana.
Díaz-Canel stated that the working visit of the head of Iranian diplomacy is “an excellent moment to expand bilateral ties,” according to a report on Cuban state television.
The Iranian diplomat, for his part, added that relations with Cuba are of “great importance” for his country and considered him “a friend, brother and strategic ally.”

Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who arrived on the Caribbean island from Venezuela, also exchanged with the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, at the Palace of the Revolution (headquarters of the Cuban Executive).
There, he described relations with Cuba as “firm, consistent and historic” and assured that there is a “great variety of issues” on the bilateral agenda.
Rodríguez, in turn, reiterated Cuba’s position of “solidarity in the face of destabilization and interference attempts.”
The Cuban foreign minister thanked “profoundly” Tehran’s support in the Cuban fight against the embargo (blockade) imposed by the United States.
Iran and Cuba are close political allies and share their support for Venezuela and their rejection of the sanctions imposed by Washington.
Havana and Tehran, which have maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations since 1979, held the XVIII Joint Commission on Bilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation last year in Iran, which resulted in the signing of 13 agreements in sectors such as technology and food security.
