Cuba and Argentina advance in cooperation and agricultural development project

authorities of Argentina received a delegation from the Government of Cuba headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia in order to work together on the Cooperation Framework Agreement for Agricultural Development that the foreign ministers of both countries signed last January.

In a press releasethe Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina pointed out that in this meeting both countries focused on deepening cooperation and the development of joint businesses in agriculture, livestock and everything related to the Agri-food industry.

As part of the Argentine delegation, the Vice Foreign Minister Pablo Tettamanti, the Secretary of International Economic Relations Cecilia Todesca Bocco and several authorities of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) participated, who received the Cuban delegation.

The statement indicates that, as a result of the meeting, Todesca Bocco emphasized the need to work together to overcome “the difficult global situation regarding the food industry.”

The agreement that Argentina and Cuba have been working on since it was signed in January is a collaboration project “that contemplates the production of 100,000 hectares of grain through Argentine investors, technologies and supplies” and which also includes the creation of a “Technology Transfer Center” of which the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is also a part.

According to the press release, it is expected that Argentine businessmen who participate in the project can benefit from Cuban legislation and the foreign exchange market.

During the trip, the Cuban delegation also made several visits, including to the Agroactiva fair, where they held future meetings with Argentine producers of inputs and seeds; the fields where the production of sugar cane and citrus fruits is developed in the province of Tucumán; and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology.
