Cuba adds three consecutive days with less than 200 cases of COVID-19

Cuba added its third consecutive day with less than 200 cases of COVID-19 and thus maintained the tendency to control daily infections, after confirming this Sunday a total of 190 confirmed cases on the island, according to the part of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

With this report, the number of positives in the country amounts to one million 103 thousand 131 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. However, Cuba maintains its good indicators of recovered patients (99.1%) in that period.

At the close of this Saturday, April 30, there were 199 medical discharges – a total of 1,093,707 – and the death of a man over 70 years old, resident in the province of Guantánamo, who suffered from hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and ulcer. So far, 8,527 deaths have been reported in the country as a result of the virus.

On the other hand, the island’s health authorities reported that there are 838 confirmed active cases (826 with stable evolution, nine serious and three critical). In total, there are 3,001 patients admitted in Cuba, while 2,137 suspects are cared for in health institutions and 26 are under surveillance through the Primary Care system.

The MINSAP report details that, of the 190 cases, 177 are autochthonous (six without a specified source of infection) and 13 imported. A total of 171 positives (90%) were contacts of confirmed patients.

Regarding the distribution by provinces, the 16 territories of the country reported infections, with the worst indicators for Artemisa and Havana, both with 29 positives.

The number of cases in the rest of the territories behaved as follows: Pinar del Río (11), Mayabeque (11), Matanzas (6), Cienfuegos (12), Villa Clara (12), Sancti Spíritus (4) , Ciego de Ávila (14), Camagüey (21), Las Tunas (10), Holguín (9), Granma (3), Santiago de Cuba (2), Guantánamo (5) and Isla de la Juventud (12).

According to the MINSAP report, 13.7% (26) of the 190 cases were asymptomatic. Since the start of the pandemic in Cuba, 146,821 patients without symptoms have been identified as positive, which represents 13.3% of all those infected.

According to official data, the most affected age group on Saturday was that of those under 20 years of age, in which 71 positives were reported, followed by those over 60 with 57, while those between 20-39 years and 40 -59 added 35 and 27 infected, respectively.

According to official sources, 13,714,157 diagnostic tests have already been carried out in Cuba. This Saturday, 6,830 samples were analyzed in all the country’s laboratories.
