The Marina Secretariat (Semar) reported that yesterday the sails ceremony of the school ship was held yesterday Cuauhtémoc, In front of the 86 pier in Hudson River Park, New York, so the ship will continue with its instructional activities, after the clash it had with the Brooklyn bridge on May 17.
In a statement from the Navy, it was indicated that the ceremony was chaired by the senior officer, Admiral Francisco Guillermo Escamilla Cázares, on behalf of the head of the Semar, Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles.
The official was accompanied by the Alternate Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of Mexico before the UN, Alicia Buenrostro, as well as the added Mexico in the United Nations, Vice Admiral Javier Araiza Urrutia, and the Naval Attaché of Mexico in the United States, Captain Marco Antonio Fuentes Lovatón.
The naval authorities indicated that the sail of the ship was carried out with six captains, 37 officers, 166 cadets, 66 classes and sailor.
At the ceremony, the crew was urged to “continue to train the future officers of the Mexican Navy, carrying the message of peace and goodwill of the Mexican people to the seas of the world.”
Escamilla Cázares stressed that “all ships, whatever their mission, face risks in port and sea. The sailors throughout history have faced storms, wars and accidents; their professional preparation allows them to overcome them bravely in order to recover the operation of their ships as soon as possible,” so that with this act they were honored to the sailors who lost their lives or were injured in May.
