The Social Security Fund (CSS) is currently in critical shortage, after reporting the delay of some providers, as announced by the director of the entity, Enrique Lau Cortés, assuring that currently the institution’s pharmacies are at 88 % supply.

“We are right, or not right, to invoke critical shortages, when we lack medicine and the people are being affected; therefore, we already invoke critical shortages,” he said, omitting the names of the companies that deliveries have been delayed; however, he said that they will be revealed soon.

On this same subject, the President of the Republic announced that this afternoon he will sign a decree that establishes the procedures for the purchase of medicines in a state of critical shortage.

The president assured that this decree will allow both the Social Security Fund and the Ministry of Health to quickly acquire any type of medication that is critically out of supply.

“It is a monumental step, it is a very important step, very important for the country,” he specified.
