The municipal votes last Sunday, November 6, were marked by abstentionism, which the Supreme Electoral Council set at 42.9%, a higher figure compared to the figure presented last year in the general elections of 34.74%.
According to the data disclosed by the sanctioned magistrate Brenda Rocha, president of the CSE, abstention on this electoral day increased by 23% in relation to the statistics presented in the 2021 presidential elections.
For the political analyst Elisha Nunez The abstention figure that the electoral court encrypted in these municipal elections is a “manipulation” to try to provide “legitimacy” to the electoral process, adjusted to the measure of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

“This is a manipulation to try to claim legitimacy and the other thing is that they never tell you exactly what electoral roll they are calculating it on, because the total roll of the country that includes all the dead, those who have left, all the people who It has not been purged from the register, it is 5.7 million people, if the numbers they gave are believed, that it was that approximately 2 million people voted, then you keep saying that abstention was almost 60%, even with those numbers, ” assured the ex-deputy to the team of Article 66.
Likewise, Nuñez explained that the CSE “grabs the base number of abstention and raises it, and the base number that went to vote was lower and lower, so they are projecting an abstention based on what they raise, that is why they project greater abstention now , because there were fewer people to vote than in the past elections».
He stressed that “the Sandinista Front, which was awarded 1,494,688 of the valid votes, has practically doubled that vote because that is what they have been applying.”
“It’s a tricky job, they just take the actual number and multiply it by 2.5 and they have the number they want to get at the end,” he added.
In these municipal elections, the CSE enabled 3,106 Voting Centers, where 7,931 Vote Receiving Boards (JRV) would function, so that voters could go to exercise their right to vote.
Throughout election day, however, a low influx of people was reported in the centers established for these votes, despite the desperation of the Sandinista government to force Nicaraguans to vote.
According to Eliseo Núñez, the Ortega-Murillo administration is fully aware of the abstention that was witnessed in the elections.
“What happens is that they need to deliver something to their bases and that is why they say that. That speech is addressed to the Sandinista who was not at the tables, or even to the one who was at the tables, who can say yours was empty, but mine was full, to deceive them, “said the opponent.
“The numbers they (Ortega and Murillo) know and that is precisely why the repression increases to the extent that they know that they have more people against them, the repression would not increase if they knew that the population is supporting them and since they are not supporting them, that is why it increases the levels of repression,” he said.
