Sada Cruzeiro won the fifth championship of the Volleyball Club World Cup by beating Trentino, an Italian team that until this Sunday (15) was the only major champion of the tournament with five titles. The Brazilians beat the Italians by 3 sets to 1 (25/22, 20/25, 25/16 and 25/22) in front of more than 8 thousand fans in the stands of Arena Sabiazinho, in Uberlândia (MG). In the clash of world volleyball giants, those who scored the most on the court were Wallace (Cruzeiro’s opposite) and Alessandro Michieletto (Trentino’s pointer). The Brazilian was the best with 23 points, against 21 from the Italian.
The celestial team’s campaign at the World Cup began in the group stage: they finished in second place in Group B, after recording two wins (against Argentine Ciudad Volley and Italian Trentino) and one defeat (against Iranian team Shahdab). In the semi-final, the Brazilians defeated the Iranians from Fooland Sirjan and advanced to the final.
The World Cup brought together eight elite volleyball teams in the world. In addition to Cruzeiro, Brazil was represented by the owner of Praia Clube, who stopped in the group stage.
At the end of the competition, the International Volleyball Federation (Volleyball World, in English) awarded the best players in the competition. Wallace was chosen as the most valuable athlete (Most Valuable Player-MVP in its acronym in English) in the opposite position. Throughout the competition, Wallace not only scored 108 points, but was also the player who scored the most points in attack (97) and also in aces (seven).
The other three winners from the celestial team by World Volleybal were Lucão (best center), Alexandre Elias (best libero) and Matheus Brasília (best setter).
